Happy New Year to everyone in the parish. Watch this space for my annual report to follow.
Longhope 2008

Happy New Year to you all and hope you had a good Christmas. What a year it has been. I have been so busy not only in my parishes of Longhope, Blaisdon & Mitcheldean but the whole of the Forest of Dean.

On checking my records for the year I have spent over 123 hours on patrol within the parish boundaries and dealt with countless incidents and queries.

January was busy being out and about with Malcolm Beddis the Street Warden, visiting Hope Brook School & Café Bonnies. In February Lee Haines of Longhope Motor Services kindly sponsored a poster competition at Hope Brook School, which tied in well with road safety week where we were trying to highlight safety on the road while walking to school or the passenger in a car including mums and dads parking outside the school. The children also assisted PC Noel Pritchard with traffic checks in Church Road. Judging for the competition took place in March and the standard of entries was exceptionally high and myself, Malcolm Beddis, Lee Haines & Vicky Harper of the Parish Council had difficulty in deciding the winners. Well done to Tom Sladen the overall winner. The posters were then displayed around the village.
During April I revamped the Mobile Police Schedule and have included Hopeswood Park on the list. Café Bonnies was welcome refreshment this month.
May saw me visit Café Bonnies again and this successful event is proving to be the best way for me to see over 100 people in a morning.
During June I arranged for the Police Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator to visit Hopeswood Park, which now has a successful scheme up and running including a no cold calling area.
July saw the famous Longhope Fete, not quite as sunny as usual but a fantastic and well run event with lots of effort put into the costumes and floats for the parade. This month also saw an increase in Anti-social behaviour throughout the village something which I have been trying to tackle ever since.
During August licensing checks continued to be high visiting the various pubs and off licenses within the parish checking that staff are asking for ID from customers, promoting the pub watch scheme and that no one has any concerns. Rob Carpenter is the New Street Warden for the area, Rob has taken over from Malcolm and is currently the longest serving Warden.
September saw me take some well earned leave to visit North Wales with my family and on my return had several visits with other agencies to discuss tackling Anti-Social Behaviour. One nuisance motorcycle was also seized and destroyed as a result of designated patrol.
October and Anti Social Behaviour levels begin to drop and I participated in Wake & Shake at Hope Brook School.
During November I attended Café Bonnies again and took some community engagement surveys, kindly 31 people completed the forms and the results were fed back to the parish council and Rob Carpenter the Street Warden. The results showed that the three main concerns are Speeding, Parking & Litter. The Roads Policing Unit (Police Traffic) are planning further traffic checks within the parish after successful results over the previous months including working with trading standards and the parish council.
December was frantically trying to catch up on outstanding jobs and incidents. I was delighted to attend the dress rehearsal at Hope Brook for the Nativity Play. Fantastic. I can see that there are lots of stars for the ‘LADS’ in the future.

I would just like to thank the Parish Council for all their support throughout the year in particular Vicky Harper & Carol Tilling. Also Lee Haines for his sponsorship & Shirley Swordy at Central Stores for allowing me to display the children’s posters from the road safety campaign. Also Carol Sleeman who proof reads the Mobile Police Office Schedule and any bulletins I put in the parish magazine.

This is a cut down version of activities and hope to do much more this year. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to email me at any time and I will contact you as soon as possible.

Introduction

I am James Pearce and I am the Police Community Support Officer for Blaisdon, Longhope and Mitcheldean. I have covered these areas since January 2007 and have met so many people over this time but I know that there are so many people I have yet to come across. I can be found regularly patrolling the villages, I attend many of the local events and am a regular visitor to Café Bonnies and Hope Brook School.

I am keen to improve relations between the residents and Gloucestershire Police and be available for anyone to contact me with any suggestions or questions as to my work. Feel free to email me or contact me via our call centre at any time.

Mobile Police Office

Once a month the Mobile Police Office visits each parish. I have recently taken over planning the MPO schedule and would like to increase the numbers of visitors. It currently visits Church Road, The Latchen, Hope Brook School and Hopeswood Park in the Longhope Parish at various times on a rolling basis. Are there any more suitable locations? Please let me know.
