Longhope Fête or Fate - You Decide?

Our Fête Committee has disbanded as only two members remain. Anyone who has ever been involved with the Fête will know this is an impossible task for two persons and so, with your help, the Longhope Fête will be village-led. The two remaining members of the old committee, Trudy Armstrong and Liz Tyler, will continue to support the Fête this year and our grateful thanks go to them and their colleagues for their hard work in producing the Fêtes for many years.

So, what about a 2014 Longhope Fête? Well, we can either call it a day, which would be a terrible shame after more than 95 or so years, or we can continue - but it will have to be without the leadership of a Fête Committee. Depending on the outcome of this year’s Fête it is anticipated that a plan will be put in place to arrange a Centenary Fête in 5 year’s time - hopefully on a much larger scale.

A village meeting has been arranged at The Latchen Room, Longhope on Monday 23rd June at 7.30pm to see if we can - at short notice - plan a brilliant, but somewhat smaller Fête this year.

Come on Longhope – let's carry on regardless – you know from past years that the weather will support us. You will see from the address lists below that every village organization and business has been invited to take part in this mission. If you know of any that have been missed, please pass this information on to them.

Just a few thoughts to get you thinking……
No committee (Linda, a past Treasurer has already offered to take charge of the money)
Entrance fee of 50p or donation bucket?
No centre field attractions - unless any organisation will offer their time to support us for no fee.
There are wooden stakes available from previous fêtes and these could be fixed in the centre to create a play or performance area.
No one to set up and clear away.
Stall holders needed – can you volunteer?
Pony rides?
Games needed – can you volunteer?
Raffle needed – can you volunteer? (Raffle prizes may be left at the Post Office by kind courtesy of Richard and Gill Pett) Also in the Post Office is a box where you may place suggestions/donations. The box will be emptied daily.
Everyone will be responsible for their own equipment – tables, chairs, gazebos etc. (The Latchen Room Committee will loan tables and chairs by arrangement.)
Volunteers needed to organize children’s fancy dress parade/prizes etc?
Tug-o-war?
Afternoon Teas – Ladies of the W.I?
Music?
Mike Bayliss of Bespoke Brewery has agreed to provide the bar and give a kind donation.
Mini fair ground will continue on advice of Trudy and Liz.

Who will benefit from any fête proceeds?

The Recreation Ground Pavilion is in great need of funding so this year we could donate any profit to them. (If you run a stall or game to raise funds for your own charity/group you will be asked to contribute say £10? for your space.) So let's get our heads together and see if we can pull this off and make it an enjoyable day not just for the village but for all those who for years have travelled in from the surrounding areas.
