All Saints' Churchyard gets a Makeover

Over the past month or so a team from the Community Payback scheme have been giving the churchyard of All Saints' Church a much needed makeover. Several of the graves have been tidied, in particular the ones along the South wall which were covered in Ivy and obscured by various bits of shubbery and trees. This has allowed us to complete some of our missing headstone inscriptions that can be found in the Family History section.

The pathway along the East wall of the churchyard comprises many flattened headstones, a fact of which most people are not aware. The youth workers had a marvelous time discovering many old stones, some dating from as far back as 1739 and there was particular excitement at the discovery of one stone in particular. So far, the team have uncovered 42 headstones that were presumed buried, lost or had been removed from the churchyard.

The pictures on this page show the state of the South side of the church, the bottom corner in particular before and after the team set about their refurbishments.
