In this section you can look at the censuses for the parish of Longhope. Census data can be a valuable source for both historians and family historians as they can indicate a village's size, population and available jobs. Longhope is mainly a farming community with many people employed in the agricultural sector, but just by browsing the lists we also had stone masons, wood turners and railwaymen.

The census database is fully searchable but only by name and surname at present and only the 1881 and 1851 censuses have been transcribed so far. The 1861 census is nearing completion and the 1871 isn't currently available. Use the red tabs at the top of the page to navigate around the different sections.

We have been given permission from the National Archives, who own the copyright to such records, to publish the census data in this way. The 1881 census is held at the Public Records Office, document reference number RG11/2525. The reference number for the 1851 census is HO107/1959.
