Latchen Room Update

For those that are not aware, the Latchen Rooms have undergone many improvements over the past two years, aided by major grants from local and national bodies. A new, high-quality roof has been installed with a grant of £20,200 from the Environmental Trust; the false ceiling has been removed to reveal the marvel of the original roof struts. New low-energy lighting was installed which was partially funded by a £5,000 grant from the Forest of Dean District Council.

Problems with drainage on the lower floor gave rise to damp problems but this has now been corrected with the installation of better drains and a refurbishment of the lower toilets. The location of the disabled toilet is to be moved soon with £5,000 from the Parish Council and £400 from the Langtree Trust.

New working space in the kitchen has been created by the removal of the chimney breasts and we hope to have new kitchen facilities very soon. This and the toilet refurbishment was funded by a £43,000 grant from Biffaward with support from the Longhope Business Association.

Finally, the Latchen Room Management and Refurbishment Committee would like to thank everyone for this continued support, especially Cafê Bonnies for provided regular, monthly income.
